This semester, we worked directly with housing directors to develop building-specific sustainability and decarbonization strategies for 2 off-campus buildings, focusing on insulation, HVAC, electrical systems, and engineering-backed retrofit recommendations.

The team developed a preliminary technical and financial framework for connecting five Cornell properties to a new district heating loop, evaluating the potential for centralized hot-water heating to reduce energy losses, operating costs, and carbon emissions.

The team developed preliminary decarbonization strategies for four Cornell properties, using energy data, boiler and heat pump cost analyses, and emerging policy research.

The team conducted heating load analysis and energy audits for DKE and Trip Hammer Co-op.

The team primarily focused on understanding the path of decarbonation for Cornell’s off-campus buildings.
