Spring 2024

Reynolds Li, Noah Duguma

Project Description:

The project focused on understanding a potential path toward decarbonizing Triphammer, whose aging appliances and HVAC systems contribute to its energy inefficiency. Through energy audits and research into available incentives, the team evaluated opportunities to improve the building’s energy performance while considering the financial and logistical constraints of retrofitting an existing structure. Because of the building’s age and historical significance, proposed interventions also needed to comply with historical preservation requirements. These restrictions can make retrofits more costly and time-consuming, requiring a balance between preserving the existing character of the cooperative and implementing necessary energy-efficiency upgrades.
