Project Description:
Our work has centered on bridging the tenant-landlord split in access to energy efficiency upgrades through research, outreach, and educational materials. Specifically, we have
Compiled and analyzed a comprehensive database of energy efficiency rebate and subsidy programs (e.g., NYSERDA, EmPower+, Weatherization Assistance Program)
Begun developing accessible infographics and booklet-style materials to help both tenants and landlords better understand and navigate these programs
Researched tenant rights in New York State, with the goal of creating “Know Your Rights” materials to support tenant advocacy
Initiated outreach strategies targeting major landlords in Ithaca, including drafting pitches that emphasize the financial benefits of energy upgrades (e.g., cost savings, increased property value, tenant retention)
Started building a database of landlords, particularly in the Southside neighborhood, to support targeted engagement efforts
Our team has primarily focused on foundational research and strategy development. Key outputs include a detailed spreadsheet of incentive programs, initial drafts of outreach materials and landlord pitches, early-stage infographic designs, and progress toward a landlord contact database. We have also engaged with community stakeholders to better understand barriers such as split incentives, lack of awareness, and financial constraints.
Moving forward, the project is positioned to expand into more direct outreach, finalized educational materials, and potential collaboration with tenant and landlord organizations.
